t.A.T.u. is a Russian pop girl duo formed in 2000. The name Тату, which is the Russian transliteration of "tattoo," originated from their decision to refuse to sign any autographs except in the form of a tattoo. Another theory suggests that the name is a contraction of the Russian sentence "Та любит ту" (This loves that). Prior to the release of the international edition of their first album, the producers added dots between the letters to distinguish them from an existing Australian band with the same name.
