Tavares is a soul-funk disco band formed in 1959 originally as The Del-Rios, serving as a backing vocal group. After disbanding, they renamed themselves Tavares. The group consists of four Cape Verdean-American brothers who were born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, and later moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts. They were signed to a record label in 1967 and released three singles. In the 1970s, they achieved significant success with a No.1 R'n'B hit, their cover of "She's Gone" in 1974. Their biggest hits include "It Only Takes A Minute," which was covered in 1992, and "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel." Tavares collaborated with another artist for "I Wanna See You Soon" in 1977 and appeared on the soundtrack of "Saturday Night Fever," winning a Grammy Award for their rendition of "More Than A Woman" in 1978. They released ten albums for a particular label, produced by various producers, before signing to another label in 1980 for two more albums. One member left the group in 1984, and another left in the mid-'90s but reunited with the group in 2009 for live concerts.
