Teena Marie was an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, and producer, born on March 5, 1956, in Santa Monica, California. She passed away on December 26, 2010, in Pasadena, California, at the age of 54. Known as Lady Tee and the Ivory Queen of Soul, she gained prominence for her work on the Motown label during the late 1970s and early 1980s, particularly her 1984 crossover hit "Lovergirl." Teena was introduced to producer Rick James by her friend and occasional co-writer, and he produced and co-wrote various songs on her debut album, "Wild And Peaceful," duetting with her on three tracks. Throughout her career, she also collaborated with other artists, including duets with various musicians. Teena contributed songs to the soundtracks of "The Goonies," "Top Gun," and "Tap," and she was featured as a guest vocalist on Will Smith's 1998 album "Tourism." Her R&B No. 1 hit "Ooo La La La" was later sampled on the Fugees' 1995 hit "Fu-Gee-La."
