Telegraph Avenue was a notable four-piece band from the Lima music scene, formed in the middle of 1969. Named after a famous avenue in California, the band blended psychedelic rock with Latin rhythms, featuring melodic vocals. The lineup included two guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer, all of whom contributed additional instruments to their recordings. From their inception, they focused on composing original songs. Before releasing their debut album, Telegraph Avenue gained popularity performing at various parties and events, including graduation celebrations and concerts at local clubs and the University of Lima. Their first self-titled album, released in June 1971, was well-received in Peru and included eight tracks. The band composed over twenty songs during this period, some of which were never recorded. After a break at the end of 1971, members Alex and Walo formed the short-lived band Tarkus in 1972, followed by Ganímedes, which also dissolved without recording. In December 1972, Telegraph Avenue reunited to record two new songs, but instead of using their earlier compositions, they created new material in 1973 and 1974, evolving their sound towards more aggressive and folk-influenced styles. Their concerts attracted large crowds, necessitating the hiring of security personnel. The band's final concert took place at the Marsano Theater, where they performed alongside other notable bands. After a period of recording their second album, which faced several challenges, it was released in February 1975.
