Tenorio Jr., also known as Tenorinho, was a Brazilian bossa nova pianist and arranger born on July 4, 1940, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was recognized as one of the best exponents of samba-jazz and was described by renowned critic Ruy Castro as a “manos de oro” (hands of gold), highlighting his remarkable talent and promising future. Tragically, Tenorio vanished on March 18, 1976, at the age of 35, and was abducted and presumed killed on March 25 during the purge of political opponents and intellectuals following the Brazilian military coup d’état of 1976. His body was ultimately identified by forensic experts on September 13, 2025, ending nearly five decades of uncertainty.
