Terri Wells is a soul, disco, and boogie singer hailing from Philadelphia. She began her musical journey singing in church before she was old enough to perform in clubs. In the mid-70s, she and some local friends formed a group that signed briefly to a label. After the group disbanded, she was hired as a session singer and toured and recorded with various artists, including notable names in the industry, contributing to songs like "Love Is Everywhere," "Life On Mars," and leading on "The Sweetest Pain." In 1979, after Dexter retired from live performances, Terri joined his band and co-wrote "Let's Stay Together" on his "Feelin' Good" album. She was also a featured lead vocalist on another artist's track, "Turn Me Loose," and was signed to a label, although no releases followed. When a producer was hired as a staff member at another label, he recommended that they sign Terri, leading to her debut solo release, "You Make It Heaven," which reached the UK Top 75 in 1983. Her follow-up single, "I'll Be Around," a remake of a classic song on which she had been an original background singer, reached the UK Top 20 in 1984. Later that year, she released "Just Like Dreamin," which included "Who's That Stranger."
