Tha Dogg Pound is an American hip hop duo formed in 1992, consisting of West Coast rappers Kurupt and Daz Dillinger (formerly known as Dat Nigga Daz). They gained prominence after signing with Death Row Records, where they played a significant role in the label's success. Their first appearance was on Dr. Dre's acclaimed debut album, The Chronic (1992), and they also featured on Snoop Dogg's debut album, Doggystyle (1993), as well as on the Death Row soundtracks Murder Was the Case and Above the Rim. Their debut album, Dogg Food, was released in 1995 and became a controversial addition to hardcore hip hop, selling two million copies. Following their initial success, Kurupt and Daz began releasing solo albums starting in 1998. They left Death Row Records in 1999 amid the label's decline, with Daz departing due to ongoing internal issues after the murder of his friend and labelmate Tupac Shakur in 1996. Kurupt established Antra Records, while Daz and Soopafly launched D.P.G. Recordz. In 2002, a feud emerged when Kurupt re-signed with Death Row Records, which upset the group dynamic.
