The Bluestars were a pioneering garage rock band from Auckland, New Zealand, active between 1962 and 1967. Initially inspired by The Shadows, they transitioned to a beat group style after encountering The Beatles' music. In 1965, they became the first New Zealand rock band signed to Decca Records, releasing "Please Be a Little Kind" b/w "I Can Take It." Their 1966 single, "Social End Product," is now celebrated as a garage punk classic, noted for its rebellious lyrics and raw energy. The band's lineup included John Harris (lead guitar, vocals), Rick van Bokhoven (rhythm guitar, vocals), Murray Savidan (bass, vocals), and Jim Crowley (drums).
