DJ Mark the 45 King, born Mark James on October 16, 1961, was a prominent figure in the music scene, particularly known for his work as a DJ and producer. He began his DJing career in New Jersey during the mid-1980s, earning the nickname "the 45 King" for his skill in creating beats using obscure 45 RPM records. The 45 King rose to fame with his breakbeat track "The 900 Number" in 1988, which has been sampled hundreds of times. In 1998, he produced a hit song that featured a looped chorus from the original cast album of the Broadway musical Annie. By 2000, he produced a platinum-certified track. He was also the founder of a publishing house. Mark James passed away on October 19, 2023, at the age of 62.
