The Adverts were an English punk band formed in London in 1976, disbanding in late 1979. They were among the first punk bands to achieve chart success in the UK, with their 1977 single "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" reaching No. 18 on the UK Singles Chart. Gaye Advert, the bassist, was noted by The Virgin Encyclopedia of 70s Music as the "first female punk star."
