Afrosound was a Colombian musical group that emerged as a response to the Chicha movement in Peru during the early 1970s. Founded by José María Fuentes, the group was created as a sort of super group under Discos Fuentes, inspired by the popularity of the hybrid cumbia sound. Produced by Julio Estrada (Fruko El Bueno), Afrosound blended Andean guitar sounds with elements of funk, salsa/son, tropical, disco, and Afro-Colombian rhythms. The result was a series of vibrant cumbia party albums that delivered energetic music from start to finish.
