The Alan Parsons Project is a British rock studio project that was initially formed to create a concept album inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. They gained widespread recognition for their power ballad "Eye in the Sky" and the instrumental track "Sirius." The official band members contributed in various roles, including production, engineering, programming, composition, keyboards, guitar, lyrics, piano, and vocals. Notable contributors to the project included musicians who played a range of instruments such as keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and provided vocals throughout different periods from 1975 to 1990. One of the unique instruments associated with the project was the Projectron, an analog sample playback device developed by Alan Parsons. It was used on several albums, including I Robot, Pyramid, and The Turn of a Friendly Card. However, due to its cumbersome preparation and maintenance needs, Parsons transitioned to using a Fairlight CMI for sampling activities, ultimately scrapping the Projectron after 1980. The Alan Parsons Project is remembered for its innovative sound and contributions to the rock genre.
