The Allman Joys were formed in 1965 by brothers Gregg and Duane Allman. After Gregg graduated from high school, the band began touring throughout the Southeast, eventually establishing a base in Nashville and St. Louis, Missouri. Over the years, the band featured various members, including Gregg Allman on keyboards and vocals, Duane Allman on guitar and vocals, Jackie Jackson on guitar, Tommy Amato on drums, Ralph Ballinger on bass, Bobby Dennis on guitar, Ronnie Wilkin on piano, Van Harrison on bass guitar and vocals, Maynard Portwood on drums, Tommy Anderson on drums, Bob Keller on bass, harmonica, and vocals, Mike Alexander on bass guitar, and Bill Connell on drums.
