The Angels of Light is a band formed in 1997 by singer and guitarist Michael Gira after he disbanded Swans, a group he founded in 1982. The band's musical style marks a departure from Gira's previous work, featuring a more acoustic, folk-oriented, and melodic sound that is less brutal yet still emotionally intense. The Angels of Light collaborates with various artists from New York City, including Dana Schechter of Bee and Flower, Kid Congo Powers of The Cramps, Larry Mullins (also known as Toby Dammit), Bliss Blood of The Moonlighters, Thor Harris of Shearwater, and most recently, the Brooklyn band Akron/Family.
