The Animated Egg was a studio-only group known for their self-titled album of psychedelic instrumentals released in the late '60s. The chief instigator behind the Animated Egg was a renowned Los Angeles session guitarist, whose fuzzy leads, along with electric 12-string, surf, and Latin lines, dominated the arrangements. He also wrote the material for the album. Although he was unsure of the other personnel involved when asked about the LP years later, possible contributors include Edgar Lamar and others on drums; Tommy Lee and others on bass; Billy Joe Hastings and others on guitar; and others on organ. Despite the high instrumental talent involved, the Animated Egg's sound suggests it was hastily assembled in the studio to capitalize on the psychedelic trend. The guitarist played on several similar "psychsploitation" LPs during that era, credited to different groups.
