The Astronauts were a surf group hailing from Boulder, Colorado, originally formed in 1960 under the name the Stormtroopers. They signed with the RCA label a few years later in an attempt to compete with the Beach Boys' success. The group enjoyed modest and brief popularity until the arrival of the Beatles in the U.S., which led to a decline in their following. The band members included Rich Fifield, Dennis Lindsey, and Bob Demmon on guitars, Stormy Patterson on bass, and Jim Gallagher on drums.
