The Avantis was a US surf group from Los Angeles, CA, comprised of Mexican-Americans Pat and Lolly Vegas, who led the band. The brothers, of Native American and Mexican heritage, challenged the norm in a predominantly white surf music scene. Hailing from the Fresno, California area, their lineup included drummer Mike Kowalski and guitarist Danny Hamilton. The Avantis served as a support act for the Beach Boys. In 1963, they changed their name to Pat & Lolly Vegas and became the house band at The Haunted House Nightclub in LA. During this period, they collaborated closely with Judd Hamilton, the arranger and co-composer on their records. Pat & Lolly later formed a band in the 1970s.
