The B-52s are an American new wave and art pop band formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia. The band consists of members Kate Pierson, born on April 27, 1948, in Weehawken, New Jersey, who plays organ and provides vocals; Cindy Wilson, born on February 28, 1957, in Athens, Georgia, who plays guitar and provides vocals; and Fred Schneider, born on July 1, 1951, in Newark, New Jersey, who plays keyboards and provides vocals. Ricky Wilson, born on March 19, 1953, in Athens, Georgia, played guitar until his passing on October 12, 1985. Keith Strickland, born on October 26, 1953, in Athens, Georgia, originally played drums but later switched to guitar after Ricky Wilson's death.
