The Bags were a pioneering punk rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in the late 1970s by Alice Armendariz and Patricia Rainone. The initial lineup included Alice on vocals, Pat on bass, Janet Koontz and Geza X on guitars, and Joe Nanini on drums. They played their first show on September 10, 1977. Throughout this early period, the band saw various drummers, including Don Bonebrake, who later played with another band. In 1979, with a new lineup featuring Alice and Pat, Craig Lee and Rob Ritter on guitars, and Terry Graham on drums, The Bags released their first and only record, the single "Survive," on Dangerhouse Records. The song "We Don't Need The English" was included on a compilation. After Pat left the band, the remaining members were filmed by Penelope Spheeris for the punk rock documentary film. Upon the film's release in 1981, they were billed as to avoid conflicts with ex-member Pat, but by that time, the band had already broken up. Following the breakup, Alice joined another group, while Terry Graham and Rob Ritter became members of The Gun Club. Ritter later changed his name to Rob Graves and formed the influential death rock band, but he died in 1991 from a heroin overdose.
