**Band Of Holy Joy Bio** Formed from the remnants of an unrecorded '77 punk band called Speed, Band Of Holy Joy initially explored industrial bricolage and bursts of madness. By the 1980s, they began releasing records that showcased their humanist tendencies, creating profound portraits of marginalized individuals with notable tracks like "Rosemary Smith," "Mad Dot," and "Don't Stick Knives In Babbies Heads." The band's founder and leader, Johny Brown, led them to a promising deal with Rough Trade, which was unfortunately disrupted by the label's collapse shortly after a potential breakthrough album. Over time, a new iteration of Band Of Holy Joy emerged, characterized by an art collective approach. With contributions from visual artist Inga Tillere and musicians James Stephen Finn, Mark Beazkley, and Peter Smith, Johny's poetic vision evolved beyond traditional boundaries. In 2017, they released "FUNAMBULIST WE LOVE YOU," a literary exploration of the disenchantment following Brexit, Trump, the rise of the far-right, and a general disconnection from post-war liberal values, all while maintaining a subtle tone. The 2019 version of Band Of Holy Joy presents a refined sound that merges indie music with Brechtian influences, choosing to move forward without being weighed down by their history. They have spent recent years growing and developing, emerging with a renewed sense of purpose in their sound and vision.
