The Beastie Boys were an American hip hop band formed in New York in 1981, initially starting as a hardcore punk group. They gained recognition with their first hip hop track, "Cooky Puss," in 1983, leading to a transformation into a rap group that occasionally incorporated punk rock elements into their albums. From 1992 to 2001, they operated their own label. The band officially disbanded in June 2014, following the death of member Adam Yauch in 2012. The core members included: one member on vocals and guitar from 1982 to 2014; Adam Yauch, who provided vocals and bass from 1981 until his passing in 2012; and Michael Diamond, who contributed vocals and drums from 1981 to 2014. Another member played guitar from 1981 to 1982 and passed away in 2016, while a different member was on drums from 1981 to 1984. The band also had several touring members, including disc jockeys who performed from 1984 to 1997, as well as percussionists, keyboardists, and additional drummers who contributed to their sound from 1992 to 2014.
