The Blackbyrds are an American rhythm and blues and jazz-funk fusion group formed in Washington, D.C., in 1973. They were inspired by a trumpeter and released seven original albums and one remixes compilation between 1974 and 1980. The group was reformed in 2012 by Keith Killgo. The original members included Allan Barnes (reeds), Barney Perry (guitar), Kevin Toney (keyboards), Joseph Hall III (bass), Pericles Jacobs Jr. (percussion), and Keith Killgo (drums). Allan Barnes was born in 1949 in Detroit, Michigan; Barney Perry in 1953 in Buffalo, New York; Kevin Toney in 1953 in Detroit, Michigan; Joseph Hall III in 1954 in Washington, D.C.; Pericles Jacobs Jr. in 1951 in Washington, D.C.; and Keith Killgo in 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland.
