The Blue Things were a garage/folk band formed in 1964 in Hays, Kansas. Originally named differently, they changed their name to The Blue Things in 1965 to avoid confusion and potential legal issues with Jim Reeves' backing group of the same name. Shortly after, they relocated to Lawrence, Kansas. In 1968, after splitting with their management, who owned the rights to their name, they began performing under a new name. The band was inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame in 2005. The members of The Blue Things included Val Stoecklein on rhythm guitar and vocals from May 1964 to 1967, Bobby Day on drums from 1965 to 1968, Mike Chapman on lead guitar from 1964 to 1968, Richard Scott on bass from 1964 to 1968, Richard Larzalere on drums from 1964 to 1965, and Larry Burton on vocals.
