The Celibate Rifles is an Australian garage rock band that was formed in 1979 by a group of friends at a suburban high school in Sydney. The core members who have been part of every era of the band are guitarists Kent Steedman and Dave Morris. Known for their energy, humor, and disregard for fashion, the early Celibate Rifles exemplified the true spirit of a garage band. Initially, the band had a different singer, but by 1980/81, Ian had passed the vocal duties to Damien Lovelock, who remained the lead singer until his death in August 2019. The band's rhythm section has seen various changes over the years, with members departing and returning. The bass players included Michael Couvret (1979 to 1982, 1984 to 1986, 2001 to 2011), James Darroch (1982 to 1984, d. March 1986), Rudy Morabito (1986 to 1988), and Jim Leone (1988 to 2001, 2011 to 2019). On drums, the lineup featured Phillip Jacquet (1979 to 1986), Paul Larsen Loughhead (1986 to 1991, 2001 to 2019), and Nik Rieth (1991 to 2001).
