The Charmels were a female soul quartet from Memphis, Tennessee, active in the mid-1960s. They evolved from The Dixiebelles, who were previously known as The Tonettes. The group recorded four singles between 1966 and 1968 under the guidance of their management. The lineup included a baritone who replaced Shirley Thomas, a soprano, and Mildred Pratcher as the alto voice. To enhance their sound, they recruited a lead vocalist after hearing her perform at a gig at The Hippodrome.
