The Fabulous Chefs were an R&B/Funk band hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, active from 1969 until the late 1970s. Their sole recording, a limited run single titled "Mr. Machine," was released on the Pro-Gress label. Recorded at Studio East in Milwaukee by engineer Tom Gress in the spring of 1974, the single was delivered and distributed in June of that year. Although they desired to have "The Fabulous Chefs" credited on the record, budget constraints led to the simpler name "The Chefs." In 2002, Jazzman Records remastered "Mr. Machine" from the original tape, releasing it on their Funk45 label. The band consisted of Brad Burton on drums, Donald Burton on trumpet, Robert Burton on bass (who also served as the band leader), Michael Eccles on vocals, David Edminster on tenor sax, Robert Fessenbecker on alto sax, Les Odom on trombone, Francis Runte on guitar, and Ron Zander on cornet. On March 27, 1977, they changed their name to Black Frost.
