The Clarendonians are a Jamaican ska and rocksteady vocal group that was active from the mid- to late 1960s. The group was formed by Fitzroy "Ernest" Wilson and Peter Austin in 1963. They recorded their debut single, "A Day Will Come," in 1965 at Federal Records with producer Leslie Kong. After leaving Kong, they collaborated with Duke Reid at Treasure Isle studio. Under the guidance of Studio One boss and producer Clement Dodd, they recorded a series of influential singles, including "Rudie Gone a Jail," "Sho Be Do Be," "Rudie Bam Bam," and "You Can't Keep a Good Man Down," which helped define the "rude boy" era of ska. It is important to note that the group was never a trio, and Freddie McGregor, whom Peter and Ernest brought to Mr. Dodd's attention, was not a member of The Clarendonians.
