The Cleftones are a vocal group hailing from Queens, NY, formed in 1955 by high school students from Jamaica High School. Initially known as The Silvertones, the group gained local recognition by performing their rendition of "Gee," which contributed to the success of their Independent Party in school elections. They were later signed to Gee Records by George Goldner and officially adopted the name The Cleftones. The members of the group include Herb Cox (lead), Charlie James (1st tenor), Berman Patterson (2nd tenor), William McClain (baritone), Warren Corbin (bass), and Pat Spann. It is important not to confuse them with the doo wop group from the Bronx.
