The Coasters were an American Doo Wop and early Rock & Roll group formed on September 28, 1955, in Los Angeles, CA. They evolved from a Los Angeles-based R&B/Doo Wop group known as The Robins. After The Robins signed with a record label in 1955, following the chart success of "Smokey Joe's Cafe," the group split up. Members including a tenor and a bass formed The Coasters, with other notable members including 'Speedo'. The Coasters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 as performers.
