The Cords were a group of Franciscan monks based in Pulaski, WI, who formed their band in 1964. They recorded the album 'The Franciscan Cords – Spiritual Troubadours' and released two 45s on the Cuca label in 1969. The band featured several members, including Jim (Bonaventure) Bertler on vocals and organ, who also played saxophone and bass; Kevin Schroder on rhythm guitar; Bertin Bieda on electric accordion and vocals; James Francis Kendzierski on tambourine, vocals, screams, and turkey calls; Matthew Gawlik on bass and 12-string guitar; Sebastian Nocinski on drums for polka numbers and maracas; Earl Hylok on drums for rock numbers and percussion; and Kenneth Mach on vocals.
