The Cosmic Rays was a vocal group from the West Side of Chicago, active during the late 1950s. The group consisted of four members, with Calvin Barron serving as the lead singer until his passing in the 1980s. Other members included Lonnie Tolbert and Matt Swift. The Rays were mentored by Sun Ra and frequently attended Arkestra rehearsals, where they collaborated with Ra and the entire band during breaks or at the end of sessions. Many of these rehearsals were recorded.
