The Crescendos were an early American rock and roll group from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 1957 by five men who attended Cumberland High School. They achieved success with their hit song "Oh, Julie," which reached #4 on the U.S. Black Singles chart and #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1958. Lead singer George Lanius recounted that Nashville DJ Noel Ball discovered the group while they were performing at talent shows and helped them record "Oh, Julie," which was primarily written by Ken Moffit. The single sold over one million copies, earning a gold disc, and featured backing vocals by Janice Green, who was auditioning at the recording studio. The Crescendos recorded two additional singles for Nasco, but both flopped, leading to their disbandment by 1959. Despite all members living within 15 miles of each other for at least 30 years after the success of "Oh, Julie," they chose to pursue individual careers outside of the music industry rather than perform together.
