The Dance was a New York-based No Wave band that emerged in the early 1980s, formed by members who spun off from a previous group after releasing one EP produced by John Cale. Fred Maher, known for his work with the old band, joined them on drums for some recordings. The band was fronted by Eugenie Diserio, recognized for her sexy homemade fashion designs and sultry voice, which often played off suggestive lyrics. The Dance also backed and produced a critically acclaimed EP featuring the 12-year-old daughter of Diserio's art professor.
