The Danse Society is a post-punk gothic rock group from Barnsley, England, formed in 1980. Their early releases, particularly "Seduction," achieved success on the UK independent charts, leading to a signing with a major label in hopes of greater commercial success. The original lineup consisted of Paul Gilmartin (drums), Paul Nash (guitar), Steve Rawlings (vocals), Lyndon Scarfe (keyboards), and Tim Wright (bass). After the release of their 1983 album "Heaven Is Waiting," Scarfe left the band and was replaced by David Whitaker. The band released two singles on Arista: "Say It Again" and "Hold On," but plans for a re-recorded album titled "Heaven Again" did not materialize. Instead, they left Arista and released their final album, "Looking Through," in 1986 on their own label. Following this, Steve Rawlings pursued other projects, while the remaining members formed Johnny in the Clouds, which did not release any recordings. In late 2009, Gilmartin, Nash, and Whitaker reunited after 24 years and decided to reform the band, with Rawlings initially agreeing to rejoin. However, after recording one vocal track, Rawlings lost contact with the group.
