The Del Vikings, also known as The Dell Vikings, were an American doo-wop musical group formed in 1955 by members of the U.S. Air Force stationed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They are recognized for being one of the first racially integrated doo-wop groups, blending their vocal harmonies to create a distinctive sound. Their breakout hit, "Come Go with Me," released in 1957, reached No. 4 on the R&B charts and No. 5 on the pop charts, followed by the successful single "Whispering Bells." After achieving success, the group faced a split due to contractual issues, with some members being underage when they signed. This led to the formation of two factions, both claiming the Del Vikings name, but both continued to perform and record. The Del Vikings were notable for transcending racial barriers during a segregated era, making them trailblazers in the music industry and influencing the doo-wop genre while paving the way for future integrated music groups.
