The Desert Sessions is a collaborative project initiated by Josh Homme, consisting of a series of recording sessions held primarily at Rancho De La Luna in Joshua Tree, California, from 1997 to 2003 and revived in 2019. This house, equipped with recording gear and instruments, served as a creative hub for Homme, along with the owners Dave Catching and Fred Drake, and numerous musicians from the Palm Desert, Desert Rock, and Stoner Rock scenes, as well as other artists from beyond the local area. The sessions were characterized by spontaneous songwriting and quick recording, resulting in a fresh and raw sound. Some tracks were later re-recorded by Homme's main band, Queens of the Stone Age. The first volume, "Instrumental Driving Music For Felons," features Homme on various instruments, accompanied by John McBain on guitars, David Catching on bass, Alfredo Hernandez and Blank Bjork on drums, Fred Drake on various instruments, Ben Shepherd on bass, and Pete Stahl on vocals. The second volume, "Status: Ships Commander Butchered," includes the same lineup as the first, with Fred Drake credited only as an engineer. The third volume, "Set Co-Ordinates For The White Dwarf!!!," consists of two tracks by The Desert Sessions featuring Homme, McBain, Shepherd, Hernandez, and Stahl, alongside two tracks by another group. The fourth volume, "Hard Walls And Little Trips," showcases five tracks by two different groups, marking the first
