The Door And The Window was a short-lived British art punk DIY band formed by Nag and Bendle in London, active from 1979 to 1981. Lacking any musical training or experience, they began their journey by securing a concert gig and then booked a rehearsal studio to record their debut EP using a simple cassette recorder. Inspired by the DIY aesthetics of the UK punk movement, the duo recorded and self-released their first 7" through a newly established label. With an edition of 1000 copies arriving from the pressing plant with white labels in plain sleeves, Nag and Bendle hand-painted all the covers and managed to distribute the entire stock. Their follow-up 7" was released the same year and was distributed with a photocopied cover and folded A4 inlay, packaged in a clear plastic sleeve with 'tracklist' stickers on white labels. Inspired by anarcho-punks, T.D.A.T.W. wrote "Do not pay more than 55p" on the cover, and the distributor sold out the edition of 2000 copies. Their single "Production Line" charted as a joint Single Of The Week with another band's release in a magazine. The band's popularity quickly grew, leading to regular performances with prominent UK bands. They joined on the Weird Noise Tour and produced a couple of tape releases on NB Records, including an untitled release and another in 1980.
