The Driving Stupid was formed on the East Coast by college students, including three longtime friends from New Jersey. In the summer of 1966, they embarked on a journey from New Jersey to Hollywood, aiming to achieve success in the music industry. During their trip, they stopped in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to record some demos. They eventually secured a deal and recorded an album's worth of material in Hollywood; however, the album was never released due to the commercial failure of their single. Their unreleased material, characterized by a blend of sloppy garage band rock and self-consciously silly lyrics, resembled the soundtrack of a Z-grade horror-science fiction film. Most members of The Driving Stupid returned to college at the end of the summer of 1966. In 2002, Sundazed released their single along with 17 unreleased tracks from their 1966 experiences on the compilation titled Horror Asparagus Stories.
