The Du-ettes were a duo consisting of Barbara Livsey (also known as Barbara Bates) and Mary Francis Hayes (later Mary Hayes Henderson), who were two teenagers from Chicago. They recorded for the George Leaner family of labels, including M-Pac, One-derful, and Mar-V-Lus Records. Their music featured contributions from artists such as Otha "Otis" Hayes, Andre Williams, Verlie Rice, and Monk Higgins. Despite their talent and appealing sound, they never achieved a chart record, although their song "Every Beat of My Heart" received airplay in cities like Chicago, Cleveland, and Baltimore. Their recording career began with the release of "Mister Steel" in 1963, followed by "Move on Down the Line" and "I'm Gonna Love You" in 1964, all under the M-Pac label. They were later transferred to the One-derful label, where they released "Lonely Days" alongside "Please Forgive Me." Their final single, "Every Beat of My Heart"/"Sugar Daddy," was issued by Mar-V-Lus Records in March 1965. Although "Lonely Days" was reissued in 1965 on Lost Nite Records, it did not achieve greater success than its initial release. After the Du-ettes, Barbara Livsey-Bates emerged in 1970 as part of Barbara & the Uniques.
