The East Flatbush Project is a musical endeavor created by Spencer Bellamy, who initially served as a DJ for the influential rap artist Howie Tee. The project aimed to showcase local Brooklyn rappers, and it debuted with the single "Can't Hold It Back" in 1994. However, it was the subsequent single, "Tried by 12," that gained significant attention in both the hip-hop and electronic music scenes. This track was licensed by Ninja Tune and Chocolate Industries, leading to an EP release that included remixes by notable artists such as Squarepusher, Autechre, Funkstörung, and Herbaliser. Bellamy continued to release music with three additional singles: "Ruste Juxx" (featuring Ruste Juxx of Boot Camp Clik), "Everything We Spit Is Hard," and "Head to Head," though none achieved the same level of success as "Tried by 12."
