The Effigies are recognized as one of the pioneering hardcore punk bands from Chicago, contributing significantly to the "Chicago Sound." Formed in either late 1979 or early 1980 in Evanston, IL, the original lineup featured vocalist, drummer, bassist, and guitarist known as "Oil." Their first vinyl appearance was on the "Busted At Oz" compilation in 1981, followed by the release of the "Haunted Town" EP the same year. Dissatisfied with their label's practices, the band established their own label with friend Jon Babbin. After releasing their 1984 LP, "For Ever Ground," drummer Letiecq was replaced, and the band shifted to a more "post punk" sound, leading to mixed opinions on their later material. They disbanded after the 1986 LP, "Ink." In 1987, vocalist Kezdy reunited with Letiecq and recruited new members from the band Bloodsport, but these later lineups did not release any material. In 1989, a compilation titled "Remains Nonviewable" was released, featuring early Effigies tracks, and shortly after, the band split for good.
