The Electric Elves were a rock band formed in upstate New York in 1967. The original lineup included Ronnie James Dio (vocals/bass), Nick Pantas (guitar), David Feinstein (guitar), Gary Driscoll (drums), and Doug Thaler (keyboards). All members, except Thaler, had previously performed in Ronnie Dio and the Prophets, which Thaler noted never really ended but simply changed its name. The band released a single in December 1967. In February 1968, they were involved in a tragic automobile accident that killed Pantas and left Dio, Feinstein, and Thaler injured. After a few months, Dio, Feinstein, and Driscoll reorganized the band with new keyboardist Mickey Lee Soule while Thaler was still recovering. He later returned as the second guitarist. By the end of 1968, the group dropped the "Electric" from their name and performed simply as The Elves.
