The Endtables were a seminal punk band from Louisville, Kentucky, fronted by the flamboyant Steve Rigot. The band originally featured bassist Joe Frey, who left for New York City, leading guitarist Alex Durig to teach his 15-year-old brother, Albert, to play bass. In September 1979, this lineup—Rigot, Durig, Durig, and drummer Steven Jan Humphrey—recorded six songs at Real to Reel studio with engineer Jeff Carpenter. They self-released four of these songs on a 7" later that year before disbanding in the spring of 1980. Following the split, Rigot and Humphrey formed a new band, while the Durig brothers pursued other projects. The Endtables reunited for a single show in 1984, and the remaining two songs from the 1979 recording session were eventually released by Self Destruct in 1991. In 2010, Drag City released all six studio recordings together for the first time. The band performed at a reunion show during South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, in 2011. In 2013, Rigot, Durig, Frey, and former Rodan drummer Kevin Coultas played a single performance as The Endtables at the Cropped Out festival in Louisville. Steve Rigot passed away in 2015.
