The Essence is a band formed in 1984 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After a year of live performances in their home country, they signed to a record label and released their debut 12" single "Endless Lakes" in 1985, followed by their first full-length album, "Purity." In 1991, they released another album, but the band underwent a period of transition afterward. They returned with the release of "Glow" in 1995. Hans Diener is the only founding member still active in the band.
