The Exceptional Three were a soul group from Cleveland, Ohio, active in the 1970s. The group primarily consisted of four members, featuring Ruby Carter as the lead singer. The lineup included Floyd Beck on guitar, Julius Roberts on bass, and Greg Brooks on drums. In 1971, they recorded their only 45 for Way Out, which was pressed at Boddie, featuring the A-side "What About Me?" that became a local hit. The record's success led to a national re-release by the GRT label, which rebranded the group as the Exceptionals. The group performed extensively in the Cleveland area for several years. After their breakup, Floyd Beck returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh, where he continued to make recordings.
