The Exits were a US soul group hailing from Los Angeles, CA. They released only four singles—three on Gemini Records and one on Kapp Records, with their debut being released twice. Despite their limited discography, two of their songs, "Under the Streetlamp" and "Another Sundown in Watts," showcase some of the finest soul group harmony of the 1960s. Their sound combined late-'50s doo wop with mid-'60s soul, creating a poignant blend of aspiration, hope, despair, and hopelessness. The group recorded their first song and biggest hit without a name, and the producer coined "The Exits" as they were leaving the studio under an exit sign. They initially recorded "Love Can't Be Modernized" b/w "There's That Mountain" in early 1967 for Soundsville Records.
