The Eyes Of Blue, originally formed in the mid-sixties as The Mustangs, a covers and R&B band based in Neath, Wales, UK, evolved into a notable musical act. The early lineup featured Wyndham Rees (Vocals), Ray Williams (Guitar), Ritchie Francis (Bass), Melvyn Davies (Guitar), and David Thomas (Drums). David Thomas joined the band in October 1964, shortly before the name change, and Melvyn Davies later departed, leaving the group as a four-piece. Initially rooted in soul and R&B, The Eyes quickly gained a strong reputation in the South Wales music scene. In early 1966, drummer Thomas left, and John Weathers was brought in as a temporary replacement. The lineup was further expanded with keyboard player Phil Ryan and vocalist Gary Pickford-Hopkins, both from another Neath-based band, the Smokestacks. The writing credits often appeared under the name L. Glas, which is short for Lygaid Glas, meaning Eyes of Blue in Welsh.
