The Fall was a post-punk band formed in 1976 in Greater Manchester, UK, and remained active until 2018. The band was led by Mark E. Smith, who served as the lead singer, lyricist, frontman, and the only constant member throughout its history. Smith passed away on January 24, 2018. The Fall originated from a poetry-style collective and went on to release approximately 50 singles, 34 studio albums, and over 50 live and compilation albums. They also produced a play titled "Hey Luciani" and a ballet called "I am Kurious Oranj." The band recorded 24 sessions for John Peel's Radio 1 show between June 1978 and August 2004. Over the years, The Fall experienced numerous personnel changes, with more than 30 different line-ups. From July 2007, the band consisted of Mark E. Smith on vocals, Pete Greenway on guitar, Dave "The Eagle" Spurr on bass, Elena Poulou on keyboards, and Keiron Melling on drums. Daren Garratt joined as a second drummer for a year from 2014 to 2015. Poulou, who was Smith's wife, performed her last gig with the band on April 28, 2016. Mike Clapham joined on keyboards from May 23, 2017, until their final performance.
