**The Fascinations** The Fascinations were a 1960s female soul group hailing from Detroit, Michigan, originally formed as the Sabre-ettes. The group was co-founded by Shirley Walker, who, along with another member, conducted auditions that led to the inclusion of gospel singers Joanne and another unnamed vocalist. The lineup soon expanded with the addition of a fifth member, resulting in the quintet being renamed the Fascinations. However, Martha Reeves departed the group in 1960 to pursue her own career, leaving the Fascinations as a quartet. In 1962, the group met Curtis Mayfield and another member of the Impressions, who introduced them to the ABC-Paramount label. The Fascinations released a trio of singles under this label, but they failed to achieve significant commercial success. As ABC-Paramount lost interest, Mayfield continued to support the group, eventually signing them to his own label after finding success with Windy C. Their first release on the Mayfield label, "Say It Isn't So," peaked at number 47 on the R&B charts, while their second single, "Girls Are Out to Get You," reached number 13 on the R&B charts and made it onto the lower end of the pop charts. This track also marked their first release in England on EMI's Stateside label.
