The Fatback Band is a disco-funk band formed in the late 1960s in New York City, NY, USA. Active throughout the 1970s and '80s, they released an impressive 22 albums across various labels. The band was conceptualized by innovative drummer, who aimed to merge the "fatback" jazz beat of New Orleans with funk music. They are known for seminal hits such as "(Do The) Spanish Hustle," "I Like Girls," "Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money)," and "Backstrokin'." Notably, their 1979 single "King Tim III (Personality Jock)" is sometimes regarded as the first hip hop single.
